that's so interesting. the doctorow piece is fascinating for its location of the discussion in its (material) historic context. i mean, sony's position had seemed stupid to me, but in light of its position relative to VCRs thirty years ago, it's absolutely ludicrous that they don't see the writing on the walls. their strategy then was brilliant, how could they not see that the same strategy will destroy them now? fools.
